Dirty pool
There is a private, elite hotel in a resort town. The hotel has a large swimming pool, a shallow pool, and a Jacuzzi. The hotel has recently signed a contract with a pool cleaning service. The cleaning deadline has arrived, but the cleaning service has been out of contact for 5 days. After complaints about the dirty pool, it was temporarily closed. The Hotel Manager learns that the cleaning service has recently signed a large contract with a major hotel chain. Due to this the cleaning service cannot spare people and equipment in the next few days.
Pre-negotiation points:
Side A. Hotel. Administrator and Manager.
Urgently need to solve the problem. It’s the peak of the tourist season. Because the pool is closed, the hotel loses money; are afraid of losing credibility and bonus.
Side B. Cleaning service. Owner and Head of Sales Department.
They are more concerned with keeping the bigger contract, but recognize that a scandal with an “abandoned” client will not lead to anything good either.
Side C. Hotel Guests. Husband and Wife.
Are outraged that they can’t use the pool. The hotel is expensive; and their family is only staying here for a week. Their hard work to afford this vacation and relax with their children ended in severe disappointment. They are ready to do anything to damage the hotel’s reputation, if the manager won’t take action.
